Advantages and Disadvantages of Commercial mixed Farming

 

Production level is lower compared to monoculture.

The ideal harvest time and growth rate are different for different crops.

Unsuitable weather conditions

Advantages of Commercial mixed farming:

If managed well, a mixed farming system can provide a number of benefits including increased self- sufficiency of feed, more efficient nutrient cycling, greater provision of ecosystems services such as biodiversity and conservation of non-renewable resources (e.g. fossil fuels for fertilizer manufacture)

Farmers can keep their fields under continuous production.

It enhances the productivity of the farmland.

It increases the per capita profitability.

Both farming’s complement each other.

It enhances the productivity of the farmer also.

Reduce dependency on external inputs and costs
